The environment around the lake, the small islands, the variety of birds, and the life of the water-centered people will fascinate you. History:

       In 1956, the Pakistani government built the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River for a US-funded hydroelectric power plant. As a result, 54,000 acres of land in the Rangamati district were flooded and this Kaptai Lake was created.

How to Go

        Kaptai can be reached directly from Dhaka's Saidabad or Kamalapur by different quality buses. In this case, it takes about 6 to 7 hours. Besides, you can also go to Kaptai from Chittagong if you want. Buses leave from the Baddarhat bus stand every 30 minutes for Kaptai. It will take about 2 hours. You can come to Chittagong by train from Dhaka and go to Kaptai from the Baddarhat bus stand. If you want to go to Kaptai from Bandarban, you can go to Rangamati by bus from the Roangchhari bus stand and get off at Baraichhari and go to Kaptai by CNG. Kaptai Bazar can be reached by road from Rangamati by bus or CNG or by trawler boat.

Where will you stay:

      It is also possible to spend the night at low cost at the rest houses of the Army, PDB, Water Development Board, and Forest Department subject to the permission of the concerned government office. There is also a chance to spend the night at the Lake Paradise Picnic Spot. If Rangamati is near Kaptai or if your tour plan is like that, you can stay in Rangamati.
